Aldebaranians, The\r
\r
Extinct xeno culture that inhabited the northern hemisphere of Mizar 5 approximately 35.000-25.000 cycles ago, before the planets ice age. The Aldebaranians were a pre-historic civilisation, able to use and manufacture a variety of stone tools, simple pottery as well as bone- and leatherwork, but had no form of alphabet or written language. However, the incredibly precise calculations needed to create complex stone structures like the [Webway of Faces](Webway of Faces) point towards this otherwise primitive culture having unusually developed knowledge in mathematics, astronomy, and abstract thinking. It is fair to assume that while no written text has ever been found that they most likely possessed a developed way of verbal communication to properly coordinate between each other.\r

*An Ionzhi Gazetteer* was a series of traveler’s handbooks published from Ionzhi years 5157 to 5245 (Real Ordinal Date Standard 454f9a - 45580e), produced by Werlact Julane until their execution in 5244 (RODS 45580b) by [Elector-Prince Rzeszutko](Elector-Prince Rzeszutko). The posthumous final edition of the book was sourced from Julane’s notes and published by their apprentices, before they were executed themselves. The travel guides covered the geography, history, culture, holidays, festivals, events, tourist attractions, inns, taverns, restaurants, and dangers of the entirety of the [Principality of Ionzh](Principality of Ionzh). The eleven regional editions were updated yearly, and covered every meter of populated land within their domains, and often detailed areas otherwise, such as camping sites, fishing spots, and caves. Most of the information sourced for these books came from Julane’s apprentices stationed throughout the Principality, and other paid informants. The Omnibus edition combined all the recent changes and was released every six Ionzhi years, and often were the size of a small boulder. \r
\r
Julane’s very detailed series of works has been highly informative, and a boon to those attempting to research the history of the late Principality, especially in the face of Elector-Prince Rzeszutko’s anti-historiographical efforts.\r

B-Time is a continuous semi-parallel timestream, adjacent to our timestream. It contains the same celestial bodies and phenomena as our timestream does, including the [Atemporal Anomalies](Atemporal Anomaly) on [Mizar-5](Mizar-5). However, there are a few notable differences: the [Denmortia Rainlands](Denmortia Rainlands) do not exist, replaced by an empty desert, and neither does the famously quinary star system [Haw-EN2525](Haw-EN2525), instead replaced by a singular red dwarf. Most important is the lack of any post-prokaryotic life, except for the [Regina Apiana](Regina Apiana), whose civilization is centered around the first [Aldebaranian](Aldebaranians, The) settlements. Observation and travel to B-Time is unrecommended, for the cytotoxins produced by Regina Apiana can kill most life forms within a few microcycles.\r

+
The Boltrus Incident refers to a sequence of events that occurred somewhere between ESDTF February 12 - March 22, 3361 in a small village on [Mizar-5](Mizar-5). The incident is believed to be the first written mention of the practice of [Rotorastianism](Rotorastianism). The collection of diaries, journals, and accounts all describe an otherwise unremarkable woodcutter of the village having supposedly been struck by a floating grey apparition, in the shape of a [Long-Necked Gh'dol](Long-Necked Gh'dol), a species native to the planet. The woodcutter, upon awakening, began to etch her collected logs with strange symbols, their meanings known only to their maker. Sometime before or after this event, the village was attacked by unusually aggressive gh'dols, and the accounts of most other villagers stopped - most believe due to death or disappearance. The woodcutter who would later be known as [Zan-Taranth](Zan-Taranth) began a pilgrimage from Mizar-5 to spread her works to other peoples in the galaxy, and several surviving denizens of the village followed. With so few remaining members, the village itself soon fell into disarray, and the account of the last known surviving villager, recorded sometime between May 8 and 29 of the same year, alluded to the presence of some hostile spirit draining the village of its life and livelihood, with a lament for the future of surrounding towns.\r
\r
The exact order of events is under constant debate and scrutiny from several historians, and will likely never be settled due to the moderate [Atemporal Anomaly](Atemporal Anomaly) surrounding the village, but the most trustworthy and credible scholars indicate that this so-called apparition was simply an aging gh'dol, the aggression of gh'dols a frenzy spurred by its inevitable death, the deaths and disappearances caused by the ensuing frenzy, and the writings of the woodcutter, indecipherable nonsense from which sprang a ludicrous following of half-cracked zealots and pretenders. Wiser readers would do well to put to rest any notions of spiritualism or otherworldly presence the more incredulous elements of this incident might invoke.\r

A Cataphract was an intended spacecraft produced by the [Golgori Sovereign Empire](Golgori Sovereign Empire), although none ever escaped [Mizar-5](Mizar-5)’s outer atmosphere. They were crafted of metals harvested from fallen meteorites, and propelled by a modified [Balefyre Engine](Balefyre Engine). The Engine was modified in such a way that the pilot of the craft could psycho-kinetically control how exactly the Engine operated, such as the speed of fuel intake and compression. This was necessary because a Cataphract had little in the way of electrical instruments, and very few options otherwise to control the spacecraft’s flight.\r
\r
It is estimated that there were a dozen or so attempts to escape Mizar-5’s atmosphere with a Cataphract, but as far as it is known, none succeeded. The attempts were likely limited by the rarity of the metals used and the rate in which [psychically-attuned](Psychic Attunement) Golgari reached the age of maturity. Most of the Cataphracts failed because of mental stress: the burden of controlling the spacecraft caused fatal cerebral hemorrhages in the pilots.\r

By the start of the second shift, the technicians discovered that temperatures had already risen beyond safe levels, and ordered an immediate evacuation of the plant. Thirteen minutes later, before the plant had been fully evacuated, the coolant system ruptured, and the resulting explosion caused a massive deposition of fissile material.\r

The band's music uses digitized instrumentals and vocals alongside analog brass and percussion instruments similar to those used in imperial ceremony to produce a sound described as "flavorfully historic, yet unambiguously modern in its chaotic signatures and stylized synth." The band derives its name and a portion of its imagery directly from [Elector-Prince Rzeszutko](Elector-Prince Rzeszutko), regarding the Empire's use of the mythology of the [Wax Witch](Wax Witch) to cement the rule of the Rzeszutko dynasty. The band claims to take direct inspiration from the destruction of the cosmos prophesized by Rzeszutko, and that "...the entropic energy produced by the instruments of the apocalypse ushers in the inevitable end of the universe, culminating in a new era of divine primordial creation."\r

Although the group has performed dozens of times on multiple planets, the band has managed to keep the identity of its members a closely guarded secret, although some have theorized that like their namesake, the band's members are each multiple different people, rotating regularly to keep the sound fresh and ensure no two albums are alike. The group has found unusual popularity in the [Candaxx Loop](Candaxx Loop), owing somewhat to the route's ties to history and the band's persona. Extratemporal anomalies are a phenomenon that is, unlike what many believe, a very real occurrence in our universe. Though they do not take the form of such outlandish things as the famous system legend of the [Blinking Cow](Blinking Cow Rumor), there have been scientifically documented reports of [Universe-Universe Binary Interactions](Universe-Universe Binary Interaction) leading to phenomena that can result in objects entering or leaving the timestream unnaturally. There have been several examples of these anomalies throughout the star system, however, the one that is most relevant to this text is the [Lillux Colossus](Lillux Colossus), a silicon based lifeform seemingly unaffected by the alterations of timeflow within [Atemporal Anomaly](Atemporal Anomaly) AA-5542 (in the underground [Denmortia Rainlands](Denmortia Rainlands). Energy readings from the period within which the anomaly was formed (from within the stasis zone) report that there was a universe-universe interaction along the J-254 fractal seam at this location, causing a partial temporal transmission of an object, in this case, the life seed of a silicon based life form. The temporal signature of the Lillux Colossus seems to have been scrambled in its transmission, leading to an object still affected by its alternate universe's temporal position as long as it remains within AA-5542, though when it leaves, our time stream seems to reject it, leading to rapid oxidization and death for any part of the being brought outside.'\r

##Golgori Sovereign Empire\r
\r
The Golgori Sovereign Empire was the largest, and most recent, civilization present on [Mizar-5](Mizar-5), which came about approximately 1400 cycles after the fracturing of the [Principality of Ionzh](Principality of Ionzh). The Empire's reach stretched over most of the habitable land on Mizar-5, and even began to stretch into the less habitable southern regions and the [Denmortia Rainlands](Denmortia Rainlands). They are noteworthy for, based on the preserved [Cataphract](Cataphract) found in the Rainlands, being the first of Mizar-5's civilization to develop vessels capable of interplanetary travel, though there is no evidence that any ever escaped Mizar-5's upper atmosphere. \r

+
The Golgori Standard Cube was the standardized currency unit used in trade across the [Golgari Sovereign Empire](Golgari Sovereign Empire). The value of the currency fluctuated moderately depending on local economic conditions, but at the height of the empire, one Cube had an approximate worth of $10.42, accounting for inflation. A Cube, composed of approximately 4.72g of compressed [Phylidium](Phylidium), found rapid adoption as a measure of currency largely owing to the inconvenience of needing a scale to verify the amount of powdered Phylidium in more remote locations across the Empire - Traders found counting out a handful of cubes for smaller transactions easier, and somewhat larger trades could still be conducted quickly with the same scales used for powdered Phylidium.\r
\r
Though more convenient, the mass of individual cubes in exceedingly large deals quickly became a burden. Many found it easier to issue bonds with a claim for hundreds, thousands, or even millions of cubes, eventually leading to the development of a centralized bank that could send and receive updated totals within hours or even minutes of deposit or withdrawal. This would be the precursor to the [Universal Credit System](Universal Credit System) that would gain widespread adoption across the galaxy to its use in present day.\r

Gondar-2 is a life-supporting telluric planet in the [Rho-HY472](Rho-HY472) system. The flora of Gondar-2 have long been cataloged by xenobiologists and xenomusicians alike, as the cacti-like plants that flourish on the planet are highly sought after for their unique properties. The 2002 identified species all make a unique sound, quite unlike anything else, if struck, strung, or vibrated. Because of this, they fetch a high price for musicians looking for a new sound, or a scientist looking for something to spice up the lab.\r
\r
No fauna are known to exist on Gondar-2, although [Varix Jhothar](Varix Jhothar)’s last communique describes his crew being killed with a substance similar to [Regina Apiana](Regina Apiana) cytotoxin by native fauna. This, combined with a long history of unexplained ship disappearances in the [Archipelago of the Damned](Archipelago of the Damned), has resulted in a popular conception of Gondar-2 as cursed.\r

The Great Chill, or the Very Large Weather Shift was a massive climate shift in [Mizar-5](Mizar-5) shortly before the collapse of the Golgori. All information about its purpose and correct operation was lost in the [Second Destruction of the Golgari Library](Second Destruction of the Golgari Library). Between the two disasters, information is sketchy. Our primary sources of information are Golgori historical records (always unreliable), and a single still frame of a schoolchild watching an educational program showing the Drive, found in an [Atemporal Anomaly](Atemporal Anomaly). +[za3k](/) > [archive](/archive) > [lexicon1](/archive/lexicon1) > History Paradox
+
A History Paradox is the theory of an occurrence of two or more discrete events that contradict each other happening at the same time in recorded history, with accounts primarily revolving around the simultaneous presence, extrapresence, modification, and/or absence of an object or individual. History Paradoxes can occur as the result of [Extratemporal Anomalies](Extratemporal Anomalies) that fall under observation by two or more individuals with conflicting accounts. Some scholars that adhere to the theory claim that these events are in quantum flux between different timelines, a la [B-Time](B-Time), and that the paradox occurs when observation cannot completely collapse the wave function - this aligns with the observation that those wearing a [Quantum Compression Apparatus (QCA)](Quantum Compression Apparatus (QCA)) have no reported encounters with these paradoxes.\r
\r
The exact nature of these paradoxes can be difficult to understand, as they conveniently defy direct observation - though the [Blinking Cow Rumor](Blinking Cow Rumor) is obviously farcical, it offers useful material for an example: A cow that is observed and not observed in the same space by two or more individuals qualifies as a history paradox, as does a unique cow observed in two different places at the same time. Another less-observed example is the occurrence of a cow observed by multiple parties to have differing properties (e.g. a "brown cow" vs. "speckled cow.") The absence of a cow observed by several individuals, however, falls under more scrutiny. It could be that the cow has simply gone unaccounted for, but the disappearance can be attributed to a paradox if, under later observation, the cow is found to have been displaced further than mundane travel could account for over the time period of absence - an example of one such event being the Two-Crown Paradox (See [Two-Crown Paradox, The](Two-Crown Paradox, The)) observed under the reign of what most scholars conclude to be Rzeszutko's fourteenth son (See [Elector-Prince Rzeszutko](Elector-Prince Rzeszutko)) which called into question the legitimacy of the already waning Rzeszutko dynasty.\r

The Institute for Psykologikal Masterie was an establishment on [Mizar-5](Mizar-5) dedicated to the study of the pseudoscience of [Psychic Attunement](Psychic Attunement). The building was partially destroyed by the impact of the New Moon (See [Descent of the New Moon, The](Descent of the New Moon, The)) although the foundation and a few artifacts were found intact enough to be recovered, including [Manuscript Collection 47b](Manuscript Collection 47b). The inspection of the ruin indicates that the building was constructed around ESDTF May 7, 4429, and the building covered 87,000 square feet of ground. The institute was comprised of three large lecture halls, a dozen smaller classrooms and labs, offices, and dormitories for up to 100 staff and students, with the majority of space being dedicated to classroom facilities.\r
\r
The lecture halls, each capable of seating about forty students in a semicircular configuration around a central stage, were primarily used for instructor and student demonstrations of so-called "psychic aptitude," with journal entries outlining a typical lecture procedure as an instructor getting up to demonstrate some nonsense ability, and students coming up in turn to attempt to duplicate the feat, almost wholly without success, and where success was found, probably attributable to happenstance. Some instructor accounts outline a sincere (if completely misguided) belief in their psychic aptitude, but a number also admit to misleading and defrauding students with cold reading and staged incidents.\r

Due to the repeated destruction of information predating the Golgori (See [Second Destruction of the Golgari Library](Second Destruction of the Golgari Library),) little information can be found on their interaction with the Kilt'iir before their mysterious disappearance before the turn of the second millennium. Some historians speculate that [Elector-Prince Rzeszutko](Elector-Prince Rzeszutko) took pains to remove all traces of their existence in an attempt to avert his prophesized apocalypse, though the more credible explanation is that the monarchy simply wanted to maintain an iron grip on their rule, and the evidence of a more technologically advanced civilization before the Golgori could undermine that claim. \r

The Law of Finders Keepers, preceding the [Fengu-Golgari Convention of 2452](Fengu-Golgari Convention of 2452), is an extralegal term for the plundering of artifacts that occurred previous to 2452. The existence of this period is both a blessing and a curse for the historians cataloguing Golgori history - on the one hand, most highly trafficked sites, including those along the [Candaxx Loop](Candaxx Loop) and in the [Vultraum Sector](Vultraum Sector) had been picked clean of artifacts long before the preservation effort began. However, the valuation of texts, tools, and jewelry within imperialist groups of the period has helped keep many of these artifacts in better condition than if they were to have been left behind for the ravages of events like the [Second Destruction of the Golgari Library](Second Destruction of the Golgari Library). Rotorastians may display gh'dol banners, gh'dol symbolism on wooden furniture or plateware. The very wealthy or very eccentric may even keep live gh'dol in their house, though they are not ideal pets. Most representations of the gh'dol off Mizar-5 actually show the brilliant blue of the common (or "normal-necked") blue gh'dol, which survives better in captivity. The true long-necked gh'dol stands almost twice as tall, and has much duller off-white matte scales.\r

While popular religious art shows the gh'dol as graceful (The "Divine Grace"), its movements could be more accurately described as slow.\r

The sailing ship "The Loping Doge" was constructed as a personal parade-ship for [Omarius Dahl IV](Omarius Dahl IV) Elector-Prince of Ionzh, deliberately using the already antiquated propulsion through wind instead through sulphur-powered turbines. Measuring an incredible 386m in length, built 8 stories tall, and built out of rare woods from the [Denmortia Rainlands](Denmortia Rainlands), its 12 year construction nearly bankrupted the Principality of Ionzh, torpedoing his popularity while bribing the electees through loans from neighbouring regions. The Loping Doge never left the harbour, as the Elector-Prinz refused to pay the dockworkers their overdue paycheck, leading to a local revolt and the beheading of the Prinz. 3 months later, [Elector-Prince Rzeszutko](Elector-Prince Rzeszutko) was elected into office who turned the unfinished jewel of a ship into a public market hall and trade depot until it burnt down in an accident two centuries later. Mizar-4 is a designation given to a temperate planet in the Mizar system, located along the [Candaxx Loop](Candaxx Loop) trade route. It was previously inhabited by farmers and homesteaders mainly due to the generous solar cycle and nitrogen-rich soil promoting rapid growth of vegetation, and accounts for roughly 7% of the organic produce for the Mizar system and surrounding microsystems. As with other planets, Mizar-4 is host to dangerous [Floramateria](Floramateria), although recent breakthroughs in biodiversity preservation have minimized its impact on day-to-day life. \r

Mizar-5 is a now uninhabited, frozen planet of the size category 19, orbiting the yellow dwarf star of Mizar within the outer edge of the habitable zone. Geological features, ice-core samples and historical documents show that Mizar-5 once was of temperate climate until a documented weathershift (see [Great Chill, the](Great Chill, the), before its complete freezing process it had several developed indigenous cultures inhabiting the surface, the latest of them, the Golgori (see [Golgori Sovereign Empire](Golgori Sovereign Empire)) nearly reaching space-flight technology before going extinct.\r
